Randomness in Games

I’m a big fan of all sorts of board games, but especially Eurogame type games as well as card games and chess. Also, I tend to be more than healthily interested in randomization. For instance, I carry a die (singular of dice) in my pockets at all times, and asked for some dice for my birthday (and got some cool ones like 24-sided and 30-sided dice!). Also, one of my biggest pet peeves is when people call a single die “a dice”. Anyway, seeing as games and randomization are two of my interests, when a friend recommended an article to me on randomness in board games, I absolutely had to read it, even though it was about 30 pages long. I really enjoyed the article, and found some really interesting tidbits. For instance, the author ties aficionados of chess and first-person shooters together in their insistence that pure skill should determine the winner of the game, with no luck involved. So, if you’re like me and like games of any kind and / or randomness, this article is a must see.
